From 24th to 29th October
2009 a delegation of women Members and former Members of European Parliament
will visit Palestine and Israel jointly with the International Women Commission
for a Just and Sustainable Israeli-Palestinian Peace
The International Women's Commission for a
Just and Sustainable Israeli-Palestinian Peace (herewith IWC) is organising a
delegation of women Members and former Members of the European Parliament to Israel and Palestine
from 24th October to 29th October.
The IWC is a tripartite body comprise of
Palestinian, Israeli, and international women leaders, established in 2005
under the auspices of UNIFEM, to advocate a just and sustainable peace between Israel and Palestine.
Mrs
Luisa Morgantini, Former Member and Vice-President of the European Parliament,
and member of the Steering Committee of the IWC
is the coordinator of the delegation composed of 11 members and 7
parliamentary staff and assistants from different European countries, plus international
members of the IWC.
The objective of this delegation is to
strengthen the role of Women in peace-building (as stressed by the UN Security
Council Resolution 1325, at the basis of the Charter of Principles that guides
the IWC), making them see with their own eyes the reality on the ground and to
give them direct information about the situation in the Israeli-Palestinian
conflict.
The delegation will meet Members of the
Palestinian Legislative Council and Members of the Knesset. They will visit the
city of Hebron, Bethlehem, Ramallah, the Refugee Camp of Kalandia (in
collaboration with UNRWA - United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine
Refugees in the Near East), and have meetings with OCHA (UN Office for the
Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs) and the European Commission Technical
Assistance Office to the West Bank and Gaza, beside women organizations and
other NGOs, Human rights centers and movements both from Palestine and Israel
side who jointly struggle in a nonviolent way against the occupation and to
restore justice.
"Despite
our will - states Luisa Morgantini - the delegation will not be able to visit Gaza Strip, due to the
Israeli authorities' illegal restrictions. Nonetheless, it totally endorses the
call of the IWC to end the collective punishment and the siege in Gaza, a
request also made by the European Parliament several times, the last one with
its resolution on February 2009. In addition we give our full support to the
Goldstone report, and call for the end of violence from all sides. and the stop of all the
settlement" At the end of the mission, on Thursday 28th October at 11.30 am
there will be a press conference in Sheikh Jarrah in East Jerusalem,
were the families expelled from their homes are standing. The
delegation will be joined by Israeli and Palestinian members of the IWC.
This will be the occasion to publicly
evaluate the results of the visit and express their full support to the
Palestinian families of Sheikh Jarrah, expelled from their own houses, in order
to allow the Israeli settlers to move in. The delegation will also express
their solidarity to all the Palestinians leaving in East
Jerusalem under threat of evacuation, their identity cards
confiscated and separated by the wall, already condemned as illegal also by the
International Criminal Court of Justice.

Ottobre una delegazione di deputate e ex deputate del parlamento europeo
visiterà Israele e Palestina con La Commissione internazionale delle donne, per
una giusta e durevole pace israelo-palestinese
La Commissione
internazionale delle donne, per una giusta e durevole pace israelo-palestinese
(IWC) sta organizzando una delegazione di deputate ed ex deputate del
Parlamento europeo in Israele e Palestina dal 24 ottobre al 29 Ottobre.
L'IWC è un organo
tripartito composto da donne leader palestinesi, israeliani e internazionali,
istituito nel 2005 sotto gli auspici di UNIFEM, a sostegno di una pace giusta e
sostenibile tra Israele e Palestina.
Luisa Morgantini, ex deputata e vice-presidente
del Parlamento europeo e membro del comitato direttivo dell'IWC, coordinerà la
delegazione composta da 11 membri più 7 persone dello staff, provenienti da
differenti Stati europei, e alcuni membri internazionali dell'IWC.
L'obiettivo di tale
delegazione è di rafforzare il ruolo delle donne nella costruzione della pace
(come sottolineato dalla risoluzione 1325 del Consiglio di Sicurezza dell'Onu
la, alla base della Carta dei Principi che guida l'IWC), facendo vedere alle
partecipanti con i loro occhi la realtà sul campo e dando loro accesso diretto
a informazioni sulla situazione del conflitto israelo-palestinese.
La delegazione incontrerà
i membri del Consiglio legislativo palestinese e della Knesset. Si recherà in
visita alla città di Hebron, a Bettlemme, a Ramallah, al campo profughi di
Kalandia (in collaborazione con l'UNRWA - Agenzia delle Nazioni Unite per il
soccorso ai profughi palestinesi nel Vicino Oriente), e avrà incontri con
l'OCHA (Ufficio delle Nazioni Unite per il coordinamento degli affari umanitari)
e con l'Ufficio di assistenza tecnica della Commissione europea per la
Cisgiordania e Gaza. Naturalmente la delegazione avrà l'opportunità di
incontrare organizzazioni femministe, e ONG, Centri per i diritti umani e
movimenti Palestinesi e Israeliani che insieme si battono in modo non violento
contro l'occupazione e per riportare la pace.
"Contrariamente ai nostri programmi - afferma
Luisa Morgantini - la delegazione non sarà in grado di visitare la Striscia di
Gaza, a causa delle restrizioni imposte illegalmente dalle autorità israeliane.
Tuttavia, condivide totalmente l'appello dell'IWC per porre fine alla punizione
collettiva e all'assedio di Gaza, una richiesta questa formulata più volte
anche dal Parlamento europeo più volte, l'ultima con la sua risoluzione del
febbraio 2009. Esprimiamo inoltre il nostro totale sostegno al rapporto
Goldstone e chiediamo la fine immediata della violenza nonché il congelamento
delle colonie israeliane" Alla fine
della missione, Giovedì 28 ottobre alle ore 11.00 si terrà una conferenza
stampa a Sheikh Jarrah, a Gerusalemme Est, dove le famiglie espulse manifestano
per la loro situazione. La delegazione sarà raggiunta dai membri
palestinesi e israeliani dell'IWC:
Questa sarà l'occasione
per valutare pubblicamente i risultati della visita e per esprimere il pieno
sostegno alle famiglie palestinesi di Sheikh Jarrah espulse dalle proprie case,
al fine di consentire i coloni israeliani di installarvisi La delegazione
esprimerà la propria solidarietà anche a tutti i palestinesi che vivono a
Gerusalemme Est sotto la continua minaccia dell'evacuazione, che si vedono
confiscare le loro carte di identità e si trovano separati dal muro, già
condannato come illegale da parte della Corte penale internazionale di
giustizia.
